Five Scroll-Stopping Hooks, Broken Down Line by Line

What actually makes the first sentence work, with real before-and-afters.

Sample brief: Written as a sample for a DTC brand's social content calendar.

A hook has one job: earn the next sentence. Everything else is negotiable.

Here are five that did that job, and the specific word choice that made each one land.

1. The contradiction opener. Start with something the reader assumes is false, then prove it true.

2. The unfinished number. “3 things nobody tells you about…” works because the count creates a small, closeable loop.

3. The specific detail. Vague hooks feel like marketing. A precise, slightly odd detail feels like a story.
